Everyone wins in a good interview. Just like everyone loses in a bad one.
I’ve probably done it wrong too 🤦♂️. But now I know better.
– you don’t “crack” the interview
– you don’t “beat” the other candidates
– you can’t “win” against your interviewer
Getting out of this finite game mindset is crucial.
It was only after I was a part of the hiring team, that I realized – how little I actually knew who EXACTLY I wanted to hire. I needed help from the candidates.
Next time, when I was looking… I just decided to partner with the interviewer in helping them to find the best person for the job.
Notice that I didn’t say – “helping them in hiring ME”. But helping them in hiring the “right” person.
And what do you need for that?
– research the company
– understand the industry
– find out who’s already part of the team
– get to know the hiring team
– ask good questions
– dig into the real problem they’re trying to solve
It’s funny right, these might just be the same things they want in the “right” candidate.
